Fine lines, visible pigmentation, uneven skin tone, dryness, loss of firmness - all the potential (and celebratory) signs of ageing.
Skin ageing can be influenced by many naturally occurring internal and external factors throughout our life. Genetics, hormones, sun exposure, toxins, pollutants and so much more; the most obvious being the passing of time.
Although getting older is inevitable - we can at least try to delay the visible effects of time and boost the appearance of our skin by implementing a few hero ingredients into our skincare regime. Here are our list of ingredients to look out for.
Retinol
An all-star ingredient from the Vitamin A family, is arguably the most talked about skincare superhero - ever. Retinol has been shown to improve the visible signs of premature skin ageing; diminishing the appearance of spots and pigmentation, helping the skin appear renewed and rejuvenated.
Remember to start slowly and gradually build frequency of use, otherwise, you may be at risk of damaging your skin barrier (if that happens, we suggest speaking with our Ultra Experts). Read all about caring for your skincare barrier here.
Hydroxy Acids (AHAs & BHA)
As we age, our natural skin cell cycle slows down which may lead to a build-up of dead skin cells, resulting in a dull, uneven complexion. Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acid are your key to refining coarse skin texture and minimising the appearance of fine lines (plus keep our pores clean). They exfoliate dead skin cells and simultaneously stimulate cell renewal which can result in a noticeably smoother and brighter complexion.
Be cautious not to overload on exfoliation so introduce Hydroxy Acids progressively as recommended. Starting every other day for a month before introducing daily.
Vitamin C
A powerful antioxidant and essential vitamin to support a healthier, more youthful-looking complexion. Vitamin C is a proven defender against free radical damage - damage that results from the environment; all of which can result in premature skin ageing. Ongoing use of Vitamin C improves overall skin radiance and supports collagen production, keeping the skin looking and feeling plump and bouncy.
Pro Tip:
Vitamin C is best used in the mornings after cleansing, commencing every other day initially before using daily. Always remember to follow with an SPF (AKA, the most important step of them all).
